DVQattest® is a distributed software application designed to test and troubleshoot the performance of IP and MPLS networks, network services and applications, and IP multimedia services including VoIP and videoconferencing in enterprise and mobile data networks. DVQattest can generate multiple VoIP and videoconferencing calls between test agents, or between a test agent and a SIP device such as an IP phone or videoconferencing system, and provides real-time perceptual quality scores (MOS) and extensive diagnostic metrics for each test call.
DVQattest can quickly diagnose the performance of network transport using agent-to-agent tests that measure packet loss, jitter, bandwidth, and delay. In addition, test agents can perform advanced IP path diagnosis, ping, and traceroute tests using another test agent or any IP address/FQDN as a test destination. To evaluate the performance of network services and applications, DVQattest test agents can perform a variety of synthetic transactions with any designated DHCP, DNS, HTTP, POP3, or SMTP server.
Using DVQattest's network, voice, and video tests, network managers can accurately assess the readiness of an Enterprise or mobile network to support IP multimedia services before deployment. After deployment, DVQattest can be used to remotely detect and diagnose performance problems, and can automatically monitor service quality to verify compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).
How DVQattest Works
The DVQattest system features compact, powerful software test agents and a central Controller application that is used to configure and execute tests and view test results. DVQattest test agents can be installed on Linux, Windows, and Android devices (such as PCs, servers, and mobile phones) anywhere in a service network. DVQattest agents are designed to run unobtrusively as background tasks and to use minimal CPU and memory.
The DVQattest Controller (click to expand figure at middle right) is a standalone Java application that provides users with an an intuitive GUI for configuring tests and test agents, executing tests, and viewing detailed metrics and path statistics from completed tests. Test records are color-coded to indicate success or failure, and can be clicked to drill down into detailed metrics for media and network performance and a diagnosis of problems encountered.
For larger-scale testing applications, the SQmediator Reporter (click to expand figure at bottom right) can be used in place of the DVQattest Controller as the user interface for active testing. The Reporter's Dashboard interface features a series of interactive, color-coded charts with real-time quality metrics from active tests and passively monitored calls. Users can quickly identify problem conditions and click various points on a chart to drill down into detailed metrics and diagnostic data. (For more information on using SQmediator for active and passive monitoring, click here.)
Each DVQattest test agent can generate multiple simultaneous test calls containing simulated voice or video payloads to other test agents, and can perform a variety of network diagnostic tests to other test agents or network entities (such as an external Web address or SIP phone). Agents at both ends of each test connection use Telchemy's VQmon® performance analysis technology to measure service quality in real time. Perceptual quality scores (including MOS and R-factors) and extensive performance metrics for both directions of each test call are stored in a database (HSQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle) and can be viewed immediately in the DVQattest Controller GUI or SQmediator Reporter Dashboard.
DVQattest's active test technology provides an instant assessment of user quality of experience (QoE) and allows network support personnel to quickly locate, identify, and diagnose the source of performance problems without costly truck rolls.
