Typical Performance Management Scenario
for a Hosted PBX / IP Centrex Environment

Hosted PBX / IP Centrex services provide a valuable potential source of new revenue for IP service providers wishing to attract and retain customers. These services offer businesses a number of advantages over traditional Centrex phone systems, including lower initial investment costs, reduced rates for interoffice/toll calling, easier moves/adds/changes, greater portability for branch office and remote workers, and more sophisticated call routing and messaging capabilities.

However, customer network problems—such as congestion, misconfigured routing, or equipment failure—can cause severe call quality degradation. The service provider will often be blamed for the poor service levels, even when the problem originates on the customer LAN. Because there is typically a firewall router between the customer and service provider, it can be difficult or impossible for Hosted PBX / IP Centrex providers to diagnose and resolve quality problems without a truck roll to the customer site.
