NexTone Integrates Telchemy's VQmon into Session Border Controllers

Collaboration Provides Voice Over IP Call Quality and Network Performance Monitoring Technologies to Carrier and Enterprise Markets for Service Quality Problem Resolution

SUWANEE, Ga, February 28, 2005 - Telchemy® Incorporated, the global leader in real-time Voice over IP (VoIP) Fault and Performance Management technology, and NexTone Communications, the market leader in real-time session management, today announced that NexTone has licensed Telchemy's VQmon® call quality monitoring and analysis software for use in its Multiprotocol Session Controller (MSC).

Specifically, NexTone will feature VQmon/SA (Stream Analysis) call quality analysis algorithms in its industry-leading MSC product for carriers and enterprises to use in monitoring, diagnosing, and managing network call and packet-related problems. NexTone's MSC enforces QoS policies across the network edge, thus enabling carriers and enterprises to route, manage, and control real-time traffic at minimal cost.

"Our use of Telchemy's VQmon is evidence of our commitment to provide customers with the latest technology and innovation," stated Hank Firey, chief executive officer of NexTone. "VQmon/SA is fast, accurate and compact; and it provides the detailed Voice over IP call quality analysis that our carrier and enterprise customers need as they deploy VoIP and other real-time multimedia services."

NexTone's MSC is deployed at the network edge and operates alone or in conjunction with a core call control engine such as the NexTone Multiprotocol Signaling Switch (MSW). The MSC's FlexPeer capabilities, consisting of dynamic call admission control, SIP/H.323 interworking function, network address translation (NAT) and VoIP firewall functionality, provide IP carriers with flexible, secure interconnections to other IP-based carriers and enterprises.

The MSC's delivers field-proven interoperability with other VoIP solutions, including products from Cisco, Lucent, Nortel, Nuera, Sonus and Veraz, thereby providing the ability to quickly extend service reach and maintain quality while lowering equipment and operational costs at the same time. The MSC also provides advanced media routing capabilities, including: NAT traversal, topology hiding, route enforcement, and the regulation of bandwidth consumption to manage multimedia flows across carrier and enterprise boundaries.

"By embedding VQmon/SA software in the MSC, NexTone is providing sophisticated, standards-based inter-carrier service level monitoring for the carrier and enterprise markets," said Alan Clark, president and CEO of Telchemy, Incorporated. "Working together with established business partners, such as NexTone, we're providing standards-based call quality to both carriers and the enterprise--enabling them to deliver reliable IP-based services to their end customers."

Telchemy's VQmon/SA is used in mid-stream routers and switches and in VoIP test equipment, e.g., probes and analyzers, to support both non-intrusive monitoring of live calls and active test calls for on-demand troubleshooting. It is the first standards-based call quality monitoring software to support the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) RFC 3611 (RTCP XR) Protocol and the new QoS reporting protocols for International Telecommunications Union (ITU) H.323, H.248 and G.799.1 standards. VQmon/SA provides:

  • Listening and conversational quality metrics
  • MOS scores and R factors
  • Detailed packet/RTP statistics
  • Jitter buffer emulation
  • RTCP XR encoding/decoding with dynamic calibration.
